What does "business casual" even mean?

Previously on Roommates, classes, and perfect ramen:

The TU women's Ultimate team, Altitude competed in our very first tournament EVER, I scored the first point of the team, and was voted MVP on day two!

Today sounds like a good day to give an entrepreneurship 2190 update!

This is similar to what I wore to the dinner. Created on Polyvore.
This past Thursday I was invited to a dinner with the Board of Visitors, where five of us entrepreneurship students were asked to mingle, have dinner (not Mabee!) and pitch our concepts in 60 seconds or less! The one catch was I had to learn what business casual even meant. Does that mean dressy? Heels? Flats? Pants vs. skirt? There were so many options I didn’t even know what to think. Luckily I figured everything out pretty quick (I wore a knee length shift dress and flat sandals) and made my way down to the CSI atrium, which had been transformed into a dining room complete with three forks-per-table-setting tables and a podium to present from.

The evening started out easily enough with about half an hour of mingling with Trinity alumnae and current staff and faculty before we were asked to sit down, one student per table. The one thing that was pretty weird was that being in the middle of CSI there are students everywhere studying and even in classes. So I found it pretty uncomfortable to have students in comfy yoga pants and t-shirts staring at us through the windows. But, no matter, we pressed on and continued with dinner. My table had some very interesting people. Not only did it have people who currently work at Trinity it also had Trinity alums who are experienced and successful entrepreneurs who were very supportive and wiling to share their knowledge.

Finally came the point in the evening where we pitched our companies. I was second. It was so nerve-wracking.  After having talked about it all night I felt like everyone (at least my table) already knew exactly what I was going to say, but it turns out that is exactly what I needed. My table really supported me and gave me thumbs up the whole way through and after I had stumbled through the pitch (it wasn’t that bad, but I distinctly remember shaking the entire time).  Overall I think this was an incredible opportunity. I never expected that something like this would even be possible as a freshman, but it is really great to know that I have professors and mentors that believe in me and my idea this early on.

Stay tuned for more E-hall happenings!
