Making Connections

So today I'm going to talk about this super cool event Trinity puts on in major cities every early January. It's called Making Connections and Trinity a bunch of awesome Trinity alum open up their houses to current students and other alumni. The event happens in major cities across the country. So because Making Connections always happens in early January it means that most people are in their hometowns! So I attended the Dallas one at Jeff Smith's house. I had also met Jeff Smith previously because he came to speak to us in my Entrepreneurship class (ENTR 2190).

Anyways basically Making Connections is exactly that, it purely for networking, but for someone who loves talking to people, it's also super fun. I met tons of alumni who work is fields that truly interest me (because I have way too many interests, this is more fields than normal people have). Other than just meeting people and having great conversations with people, I also was offered potential mentorship for any entrepreneur endeavor I may have. This willingness to help me (a First-Year who has no clue what she's doing with her life), amazed me. All the alumni were genuine and just wanted to help me advance in whatever path I chose.

One thing that also surprised me was the amount of compliments I got for being a First-Year at a Making Connections event. Many of the alumni expressed that they started thinking about these things much later on in their Trinity career. I thought this was interesting because, to me, networking is so important; however, I also learned that by starting early I (hopefully) gave myself a little head start.
