The Perks Of Being an Entrepreneurship Student

When thinking about taking on a minor in entrepreneurship, my plans were long term and abstract: learn how to start a business, start one, change the world. Point A didn’t really lead to Point B, which definitely didn’t lead to Point C. Yet, that was the plan, so I stuck to it.

If I’m being honest, that’s still the plan- as farfetched as it may be, but I’m becoming painstakingly aware of how many gaps I have left to fill, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone.

But right now, I’m talking about the Perks of Being an Entrepreneurship Student, not the worries, and in the month I’ve spent at Trinity, I’ve found 3 definitive perks so far: E-Center, E-Hall, and E-Opportunities.

One of the cool things about Trinity is that students have access to classrooms and buildings at all times if they correlate with their majors. I don’t know about everybody else, but I like having access to as many rooms as possible. Being a Computer Science Major pretty much opens up all of CSI, but only Entrepreneurship students get access to the E-lab.

Outside of the simple power of opening a couple extra doors, the E-lab is ridiculously cool. Featuring offices for student run start-ups, couches, a giant screen, and 360 dry erase walls, there’s not another room like it on campus. It’s a great place to work. Plus, my FYE happens to be in there, and somebody has to let us in if the class before us leaves early.

If having access to the lab wasn’t enough, I get to live with some of the other more dedicated Entrepreneurship first years in E-Hall (which, sidenote, is on the first floor of one of the nicest dorm halls on campus). Some of my closest friends at Trinity live right across the hall, and there’s always somebody around to talk to if I suddenly come up with an idea.

But the most important benefit to this path of study is undoubtedly the opportunities for networking and internships we receive. In the short time I’ve been here, the class has highlighted multiple job opportunities (one of which I’m about to take with Cafe Commerce!) and featured various entrepreneurs in San Antonio. In this class, I have heard more about starting a business in the real world and been told about more opportunities I’m actually eligible for than through anywhere else during my short time at Trinity. There’s so much out there and this has been a great way for me to uncover it. You get from ENTR what you put into it, and so far as I can tell, there’s a lot left for us to take.

So maybe we all roam this school aimlessly looking to be the next big thing, but Entrepreneurship provides a unique opportunity to at least attempt to get there. With all of these reasons to get the minor, you begin to take every possibility you can to set yourself apart

Plus, you know, lots of free stuff, not that I care about that.
