Profile: Liz Metzger
Liz Metzger is a member of Alpha Chi Lambda, multiple improv groups, is active in politics, and was a original members of GLO, one of the Stumberg finalists. Liz was an intern like me at a local startup, learning how the fast paced start up world works first hand. But most of all, Liz is an entrepreneur, and an astounding one at that and she’s still just in her undergrad at Trinity. I wanted to do a profile on Liz because she is my friend, but furthermore because I think she can teach us all a lesson on what it means to be an entrepreneur. She knows calling it quits is okay, she knows to ask for help when she needs it, and she can handle all her commitments like an experienced juggler.
Liz called it quits with GLO. Usually quitting is seen as failure, but in entrepreneurship, knowing when to quit things in order to follow other pursuits is important. Furthermore in entrepreneurship, you are expected to devote serious amounts of time and energy to the startup you are working on. Liz realized that she couldn’t devote the time to GLO and thus left the company she helped create. While it was a sad goodbye, she made the right decision for her and set a great example for other entrepreneurs.
I also have seen Liz ask for help when she needs it. We are in a class together working on an album alert idea and Liz is always up front when she needs expertise from someone else in the class or needs a clarification from the professor. Being able to know when you don’t know something is key to succeeding as an entrepreneur and Liz has a great handle on this key trait.
Lastly, as previously mentioned the life of an entrepreneur is a busy one and Liz’s life is no exception. Between all of her commitments, school, and working on outside ventures, Liz handles it like a pro. Like many of us, she has her off days, however I consistently see her working and managing her time in order to make everything she wants to do fit into her life. Essentially Liz is a role model entrepreneur in so many ways and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
