TUNE Brunch
The TUNE Brunch was my first introduction to the amazing alumni network the Entrepreneurship department has. TUNE stands for Trinity University Network of Entrepreneurs and it was an incredible experience to see all of these amazing alumni and friends of the University all in one place. While free food may have been the primary motivation for me to attend, it was the networking and great presentations that got me to stay.
When I got to the brunch, I was reunited with my old co-worker and boss Nick from Venture Lab. I had worked for the startup back in 2014 so it was great to catch up. I also was able to meet some of the new freshman entrepreneurs, and hearing about some of their ideas was really refreshing. One of the freshman enrolled in the introductory entrepreneurship class is also a computer science major so we instantly bonded.

My next stop was to find my assigned table and grab some food. They had a ton of options, something for everyone, and of course coffee. I always take mine with two creams and a ton of sugar, and thankfully all of the above were provided. Once I got settled at table D, I found familiar faces in my other tablemates. One was a Trinity PR and photographer I have known since freshman year. Another was a member of ITS, our technical support group on campus whom I had met through work. Yet another was my friend Andrea who now is working on a start up called The Contemporary. It is a common experience at Trinity where you encounter these familiar faces but within the smaller Entrepreneurship community it is even more common.
The main event was hearing from alumni about their ventures. Some of them, like Nick’s involvement at Venture Lab and Bria’s work to create the GLO app were familiar to me. Others, however, are new to me. Cloud Therapy was especially interesting to me as it is utilizing IBM technology to help diagnose people. The large amount of data we deal with every day is an ever increasing problem and it is cool to see a company tackling that for good.
All in all this event was a blast. I had to leave a bit early to attend Loon-E crew practice, but I wish I could have stayed to meet more entrepreneurs and meet more amazing people within the TUNE community. I look forward to next year’s event as I’ll be returning for my first time as an alumni myself.
