The Entrepreneurship Classroom Environment

Entrepreneurship classes are a deviation from the traditional classroom experience to say the least. If it wasn’t the whiteboard walls or moveable furniture that gave it away, it may be the shelf with nerf guns and play dough. Freshman year I dove into entrepreneurship without knowing what to expect and was blown away by the enthusiastic engaging activities we did. I think there are three reasons why entrepreneurship at Trinity is so great: the classroom is taken outside, there room to innovate, and the department provides resources for mentorship and more.

The classroom of course exists in the CSI building on campus, however in the classroom all of the entrepreneurship courses stress the importance of getting outside to validate our assumptions and apply real world knowledge to what we are learning. As many of the entrepreneurship program revolves around starting or running your business, getting feedback from real customers is integral and that reality makes the entrepreneurship classroom much different.

The reason the entrepreneurship classroom gives us room to innovate is partially because of the atmosphere. By creating such a movable multi-purpose space, it is easy to adjust the classroom to your needs. However the main reason the entrepreneurship program has room for innovation is because of the encourage and support of the department staff. Not only are they there for you in the classroom but also in the every day as you are working on various ventures and may be looking for advice.

Lastly, the entrepreneurship department provides resources to its classrooms in order to provide mentorship and opportunities to its students. I’ve been able to go talk with teams at Geekdom, attend pitch competitions, and talk with the Trinity entrepreneur in residence on campus about my startup. In this way students are supported and exposed to events in the community that can help them grow.

This department is new, growing, and increasingly showing students how great entrepreneurship is. I am so glad I got to be a part of it and can’t wait to see how it continues to evolve.
