About the Entrepreneurship Department

The Department of Entrepreneurship at trinity has grown over years, and I have seen it all thus far. My name is Adam Press, I will be graduating in May of 2017 with a minor in entrepreneurship. I love the Entrepreneurship Department here at Trinity. When I was a freshman moving into the E-Hall there was a man there helping the O-team. His name was Dr. Martinez, and little did I know then that he would help shape my Trinity experience into something special. Back in those days Dr. Martinez was a one man department and was doing it all. Every now and then things would fall through the cracks. This is not the case anymore. There is a strong little community working there now, and it is a well oiled machine. Everyone there is ready to help make your idea into a reality.

The other great part about the department is that everyone has their venture, but will always take the time to help out the other teams. This collaborative environment builds some strong entrepreneurial spirit, and it is very contagious. We support each other and it’s just a great place to be. I think that everyone should take at least one class with the Entrepreneurship Department. The classes are so unique and offer things that no other class can. What we have there is really amazing, and I believe it is now one of the most special department on campus. I also think that it is something that you can’t get at many other universities.

Dr. Martinez is the type of man who will always go the extra mile. I have met with him early in the morning and after 5; he genuinely wants you to succeed. He is so much more than just your average professor, and I think that it would be well worth any student’s time to get to know him. He is also up to date on internships within the startup community too, and could be a valuable resource for anyone trying to find that first job. On a similar note, anyone who spends time in the entrepreneurship suite will improve their professional network. Everyone there knows people that have been where you are, and they are always going to try to help connect you.

The implementation of the Entrepreneur In Residence (EIR) may be one of the best features the department has. The EIRs are people who have run a business and have really experienced what it means to be an entrepreneur. They change throughout the semesters, but all have very valuable perspectives. They are such an important asset to us. They have had success with their venture(s), but they ultimately accept the position here to help the students. Use them as much as you can, that’s what they are here for.

The last thing I want to talk about is the Entrepreneurship Department’s suite. It is awesome. First off it is in CSI, which is just a great building to begin with. Secondly, all the walls have white-board paint on them (meaning you can draw all over the walls with expo markers), and there are more whiteboards that can be pulled out of the wall. Thirdly, there are TVs everywhere (with a great sound system). The space is perfect for a class, studying, even extracurriculars. For example, I organized a FIFA tournament in that space for my fraternity, and it was great!

Trinity’s Entrepreneurship Department has unlimited potential in the things it could do for you (maybe even give you $25,000 if you win it). It is one of the most accepting departments and doesn’t discriminate based on major. You’ll get out what you put in, but if you spend some  time there and get to know people, I am sure you’ll love it.

This space is here for you, so if you have a business idea, you’re bored between classes, want to work on a startup, or are just intrigued, swing by the Entrepreneurship Department’s suite (CSI 382) and say hello, you won’t regret it.
